Breakfast For The Children
Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

Every day I ran out of ideas of what to pack for my children’s breakfast. One doesn’t like bread and the other doesn’t like biscuits. Yeap I have 2 fussy eaters at home. Even though daddy tried to make little cute triangle sandwiches, yet end of the day, the sandwiches are still in their Tupperware.
I must search for some good and simple recipes to make something they would like to eat. Maybe a French toast casserole just like the one in the picture. Yummy! There are more recipes from find.myrecipes.com.

Healthy Snacks For Children
Monday, August 25th, 2008
Tim loves this and so do I. It is the Japanese Green soy bean called Edamame. I got a pack from Jusco and I usually steam it when I want some snacks to chew on. Another great snack that my family has is sweet corn. Tim and Emily love getting those little corns out from the cob. It is another healthy way to snack. It is definately better than fries, chips or sweets.
Now Emily discovered prunes from SunSweet. After she takes it, her stool becomes soft.

Mooncake Menu
Tuesday, August 19th, 2008
Tim is a fan of mooncake, fortunately it is once a year kind of festival. The way Tim eats mooncake, I probably will go bankrupt soon. He can finished one mooncake all by himself. Mooncakes are not what it used to be. I am still a fan of the traditional mooncakes. Now mooncakes comes in many colors and very costly. I remember I used to buy it for half the price.
A few weeks back, I was shopping at Jusco with Tim and Emily. Tim saw mooncakes and his eyes were big. He kept asking me to buy. I asked him what he wants as there are so many types to choose from. In Jusco, the mooncake’s stalls were setup in rows. Each brand has a menu. Tim picked up the menu and scanned through. He went to the next and the next because he couldn’t find what he wanted. Finally found one stall which have his type but the promoter was nowhere to be found. He was very upset.
He went to another stall to scan the menu again. After the third stall, he found another of his choice. However, the promoter said that it ran out of stock. Tim was frustrated. By now he scanned through all the stalls but none avail. Anyway we waited for the MIA promoter to return, she did and Tim was happy.
As for Emily, she told me that she wanted the purple yam mooncake and got what she wants. Simple. Now guess what mooncake Tim wanted? I think only 2 brands has it.
Tim was looking for is the dragon fruit mooncake, dark pink in the inside.

Favorite Pizza Topping
Saturday, July 26th, 2008

Can you guess what Timothy’s Favorite Pizza Topping is? Whenever we eat pizza, he would go digging for his favorite topping and whack them all. He will not leave any for us. I remembered when he was younger, he didn’t like it. He would spit it out. Now it is a different story. Oh well, I probably should request extra of this topping, next time I ordered a pizza.

Small Eaters
Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008
I always thought my children were small eaters. They don’t really each much. One day Emily was sick so I had to take care of her at home. However my babysitter helps me to cook for her. She brought her food over. Wow, it was a big portion. I said to myself, can she finished all. I wonder does she feed her this much everyday?

I was amazed that Emily finished 90% of the bowl above.
Funny, yet after coming back from babysitter, having eat that much, they still say their hungry.
During the weekend, they only can eat 1 small bowl of rice with dishes. Both of them take very long to finish their rice. When it comes to cakes, ice-cream or satay, they can gobbled it down very fast. Children…sigh.

Face Bun
Sunday, December 2nd, 2007
Emily and my hubby are a bread person. However Tim and I do not fancy bread that much. Emily love to eat face bun, a face on the bun. It has kaya inside the bun and I must say it is delicious.

Doesn’t the face bun look cute? It smiles at you even when you are chomping it down your little tummy. Emily can finish the whole bun with no problem at all. This is good for snacking time.

Childhood Chocolate
Tuesday, November 6th, 2007
How many of you have tasted Kandos when you are young? I remembered that I used to buy Kandos choc in school. I was a junk eater and not really interested in eating rice. I remembered my mother took me to the doc asking him to prescribe something to increase my appetite. Guess what he gave? He gave me supplements instead. He said I can get the necessary nutrition from there.

Last week, I went grocery shopping, I found Kandos. Yummy. The taste is still the same. Wow after 30 years, I can still remember the taste. It is one of my childhood memories. Kandos anyone?

Pho Hoa @ Curve
Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

We tried the Vietnamese Beef Noodles, Pho at Curve. Actually it is not bad and has a lot of beef stuff in it. You never can imagine so many parts of the cow can be eaten until you have this. The noodle was a bit thin and they didn’t give enough bean sprout and basil leaves. Common, those are not very expensive, they should give us each one place rather than a plate for 2.
Of course, the one in the Bay Area US is still the best. If you are going to US, you must try it. Anyway back to the one at Curve, it is RM11 for regular and RM13 for a super duper bowl. Trust me it is really huge. For me, the regular is enough to stuff me. So far, it is the best Pho I ever eaten in Malaysia. If you know another, please ping me.

Breakfast
Friday, October 12th, 2007
Zara’s mama wants to know what I had for breakfast. Here ya go:

If I have an early morning meeting which I often do, I can only have a cuppa of milo or tea from my favorite vending machine. Yes, I agree that I have to eat more than this.
If I don’t have early morning meetings or late night meetings, I will have a delicious breakfast with hubby and Tim. We take Tim to school early morning and we will eat near there. We take all the unhealthy food like pau, roti canai, nasi lemak, loh mai kei (glutinous rice with chicken) or prawn mee. Tim loves the loh mai kei. He even asked daddy to pre-order for him when the seller runs out.
What about Emily? She usually wakes up late, so she will have breakfast at babysitter place. During weekend, sometimes we have dim sum together as a family. I just love dim sum and the hot “tan tart” (egg tart). Yummy, will go for that tomorrow.

Guess what the children are up to with the hammer. In order to eat this, you need a hammer. Both are ready to give a good whack.

Yes, we went to Tambun Fisherman’s Village to have seafood again. The seafood is cheap. For RM200 – RM300, you can feed a table of 10. There is lots of fresh seafood there with a river view. Timothy loves the prawn and we had it steam with ginger garlic sauce. Funny thing is he doesn’t get any rash from eating the prawns or seafood. Lately he developed a rash not from seafood but we didn’t know where it came from. It must have been something he eaten.
We had the crab baked so that we can taste the natural crab taste without any sauce. It is lovely and simply delicious. Sometimes simple cooking is still the best and healthy too.

Healthy Delicious Meal
Thursday, September 20th, 2007

My hubby said a healthy meal is when he sees all colors on the plate. I was so touched by his remark. Look what I made for him and the children. It is simple and colorful, of coz tasty too.
I love to cook and hope to learn more fast and quick baking type of food. Jamie Oliver, the naked chef does a lot of those. It took me 1 hour plus to make the above dish. The fish was bake with herbs and spice. The pasta was top with bolognaise mushroom sauce, which you can make your own or buy ready made. I added extra carrots, onions, celery and sausage for my children. Next I will try to bake chicken. Simply yumilicious!

Stench Smell
Thursday, August 9th, 2007
Yesterday morning while I was getting into the car to send Timothy to school, there was a stench smell in the car. First thought was it is certainly a dead rat somewhere. My hubby drove out and I look to see whether there was a dead rat on my porch. None.
Later, the smell followed us in the car. Second thought I was afraid that the cat must have brought the dead rat into the car. But how? I kept winding down the window to get fresh air. After a while, I sniff and it came from my son’s bag. I open each compartment and one of it threw out that stinky aroma. Yeak. I passed the bag to my hubby.
My hubby took out a bag of rotten stuff. I am not sure what it was as it was moldy and green. Timothy shouted “That’s the egg I prepared in school” He didn’t tell us that before. Funny thing is when my husband clear the bag everyday, he didn’t notice the smell. Hrmm….
One in a while you get suprises from your children, be it good or bad.

Yumilicious Durian
Saturday, July 28th, 2007
Durian is in season and my hubby bought a few back. Tim loves durian and he can wallops a lot. Emily, it depends on her mood. If she likes it, she will take 1 biji. To sums it all up, all of us have the durian gens.

When I was young, I try to avoid taking because I couldn’t stand the smell of my hands after eating. However I love eating it especially when it is from the fridge. There was a point in time when I use plastic gloves to eat. My parents are a great fan of durian and they are sure to get a bunch when it is in season. We will have a durian party. My hubby side his mom and brother dislike durian.
As you know Penang is a place to get good durians and even expensive ones too. Imagine now durian have different grade and types. I prefer the sweet ones than the bitter ones. There are a couple of places here where they have “eat all you can durian buffet”. I am serious. It cost between $15-$20 per person. When my children grow up, we will sure go for the durian buffet. Yum Yum…

Anniversary Dinner
Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007
I took my children to our 7th wedding anniversary dinner. My hubby and I thought of having a quiet and romantic dinner together. We went to the Victoria Station in Penang. However the children were pretty noisy. I mean they talk non stop in aloud voice, I had to silence them a couple of times. Fortunately there was another family who was there who also had 2 children. If there were couples around, we will be embarrass
Imagine if there were couples there having their romantic dinner, you hear “Mummy I want the train to move”, “Mummy why aren’t the train moving”, “Mummy where is the train going?”, “Mummy, what is this?” Fortunately the banana split came in time to keep them quiet done for a little while.
I had my favorite escargots, the little French snails. Timothy likes it too.

Timothy: Where is the snail head?
Mummy: In your tummy.
Timothy: *disbelieve* No mummy, where is the snail head?
Mummy: You ate the head.
Timothy: *just cannot accept it* No mummy, you ate the head.
The food was alright but the environment is certainly romantic. After the meal, I took my children to the train head and they wanted to move the train. They were not very successful with it.

Asam Laksa is one of my favorite food and it is one of the most popular food in Penang. When you think of Asam Laksa, you think of Penang. It is a spicy rice noodle in sour soup. It has rice noodles, onions, mint leaves, pineapple, cucumber, polygonum (daun kesum), chilies and prawn paste (hay ko). The sour soup is made from mackerel fish, water, tamarind juice, ginger slice, polygonum, lemon grass, shallots, tumeric, chilies and dried prawn.
I love it since I was born and that time I was in KL. Now I landed in the Penang where my favorite food is. Thank you God, you know me so well. I love it with lots of vege. I really cannot get enough off. Can I cook it? Yes but it is not as good.
The popular places to get a delicious bowl of asam laksa are Penang Rd and Air Itam. I love the one at Penang Road with lots of fish. Burp…opps sorry, I just had 1 bowl.
