Rachel’s Birth…..

I remember completing my knitted receiving blanket on Tuesday, when I started knitting a baby hat and telling her “DON’T COME OUT BEFORE I COMPLETE”… Yeah, I completed the hat nearly midnite 2 days later (very simple one mar), then I packed up and went to bed… Merely 2 hours after that, I started feeling some discomfort in my tummy, thinking I need a big business, sat in toilet for a while, but of course, failed lor… Went back to bed and got up an hour after that, again, due to tummy discomfort… Went toilet, and after whole 9 months without period, I saw some red stains (somemore recheck leh)…

With that, it SUDDENLY hit me, AIYOH, it IS time liao… Woke Tecky up, told him (trembling somemore leh) “you cannot go work tomolo liao”… However, I sent him back to bed, cuz a bit oni mar, wore a pad and thought get more sleep, but failed… So I ended up taking shower, washing my hair (else dunno when I can wash again after that) then sitting in the living room watching TV and messaged my mom and MIL… Imagine their horror when they (1 at 5am another at 7am) found out I was still at home (but aiyoh, no risk at all lar, hospital only 5 minutes drive away)… But Tecky also anxious, kept waking up and asking should we go now… hehehe… But I remember reading Sue’s blog that we should walk more, and that she was strap to bed when she admitted into the hospital, so I chose to wait at home instead lor… Somemore, went looking for dimsum for breakfast before going to the hospital… hahaha… Drove both my mom and MIL up the wall…

When arrive, (8++am) was checked, and only 1.5cm dilated… Long story short, Tecky was so patience, sitting with me at all times, playing poker cards (Dai Di) with me… Then I started to have mild contraction (like period pain oni lar) about 15 minutes interval… At noon, I was starting to tell Tecky, I wanna go c-sect!!! Lucky he only kept asking, “you sure? you wont regret?”… That made me chicken out lar… hahaha… Imagine, in the labour room, my mom can still bring the glutinous rice dumping (bak zhang) in for me… hahaha (cool leh?)… I was complaining about the pain, and she laughed at me saying this is NOTHING compared to what you are going to feel later…

At about 4pm, thinking that my pain had increased a few times, kept asking the nurse to check, and they SELAMBA, didn’t bother about me at all… When they finally came, told me that I was STILL 1.5cm!!!! Imagine my horror, after nearly a day of (what I thought was VERY PAINFUL contraction), there was no improvement!!! So they sent me to the ward, and at 9pm, Dr. B came and said he expect me to deliver the next morning (else he’ll induce)… AIYOH, how to sleep with the pain? So he gave me a shot of painkiller…

Tecky told me I drifted in and out of sleep, alternating with contraction pain that came with mumbling mumbling of he also don’t know what, and he was chased home at 10pm (not in active labour, husband cannot stay wor)… At about this time, my contraction was 5 minutes interval, and there was this nurse that kept checking on me every other minute… Around 11am, she move me back to the labour room (which I can eat bakzhang in… muahaha), and asked if I was shaved and if I cleared my bowel… NONE LAR! Morning nurses didn’t bother mar… So with my 5 minutes major contraction pain, I went through the procedures, and kept hearing them chasing Tecky home…

Nurse even told me after checking my dilation (at 12am), this is your first lar, although baby’s head very low liao, but it’ll take another 2 hours maybe… WAHLAU, 2 hours of this? Somemore asking my husband to go home… TAK BOLEH LAR!!!! but no choice… She started the drip, while Tecky said he’ll just wait in the lounge or something (I don’t quite remember), then I started to feel VERY painful, until my legs were shivering non stop, which was when I asked, epidural leh? Why I not given? To which I was answere, TOO LATE LIAO, cannot now, just use the gas and tell me when you feel like you need to go toilet for big business…

Then, BAM, SO painful I felt like my rectum was going to explode… Told her about it, and she rechecked, and told Tecky, you should stay, she’s going to deliver soon (that’s like 10 minutes from the time she told me it’ll take 2 hours)… Instantly, I asked for Dr.B, was told he’s on his way, and to use the gas…

I heard from someone that I shouldn’t inhaled too much of the gas, so I kept pushing it away, and Tecky seeing me in pain and hearing the nurse said it’ll help, kept pushing it to my face!!! In between these, the nurses had already propped up my legs and she was standing in position, asking the trainee, have you delivered before? WAHLAU, where’s the doctor??

Then Dr.B came in (I believe in his pyjamas), and put on the apron and plastic boot… I tell you, he look like a fish monger at that time leh!!! SERIOUS! I don’t quite remember anything else, except him telling me not to shout, just push, I don’t even remember him doing the episiotomy, but the first push, he said GOOD GOOD, A BIT MORE then OK, ENOUGH, ENOUGH, RELAX NOW, RELAAXXX then in the mid of second contraction, the little one slided out like a ‘PLOP’ feeling in between my legs!!!! Yeah, she was born 30 minutes after the nurse told me at least another 2 hours, after about 3 hours of major contraction paid and 2 pushes… WOO HOO… I was SO SO SOOO blessed…. REALLY!!! I thank God for that… :D
Right after that, I remembered, PHOTOS!!! The camera was in Tecky’s pocket all the while, but due to anxiety, we forgot all about it… He did manage to take a photo of Rachel looking all purple… Once she was cleaned up, she started crying… It’s farnee how when I wanted to know what to call the baby (Rachel for girl and Ryan for boy) and asked Dr.B for the gender, he stared blankly back at me, then the nurse and ask what gender ar? The nurse pulak, have to unwrap the baby, and check!!! TERUK RIGHT? But, oh well, I paid <RM1800 for the whole delivery and stay… Not bad eh? So no complains… hahaha…

I have blogged about it in my blog, here is for the pre-labour and this is for labour, while this is post-labour… This post has gotten so long I think I have bored everyone… hahaha…. So other detailed there… hahaha… :D

    Hi there,
Your description made me burst out with laughter. It sounds more like a comedy rather than a real delivery. Haha! Enjoyed reading it a lot.
