      TV: Now walk forward.
      Tim: What is forward?
      Mummy: Walking towards me.
Tim: One, Two, Three, Four, Five-ward?

My children questions are getting more difficult for me to explain. It is not that I do not have an answer but I must answer so that they can understand using simple words. If not, more questions will come my way. For example:

Emily: Why his skin brown color?
Mummy: Because God color his skin brown.
Emily: What did God color his skin brown and not peach color?
Mummy: Because God makes some people with skin peach and some people with skin brown and some with other colors.
Emily: Why God want to do that?
      ….it never ends…

By the way, if your child makes a mistake, do not say “This is wrong” but say “You can do better, let me show you how.” If your child scribbles when you asked him to draw a picture, do not say “What an ugly picture”. If you do, I bet that will be the last picture you will see him draw. Pick something from the scribbles and say “Hey that looks like an oval or circle.” What we say means a lot to children and what we say either motivate them or put them off.

    1. i like ‘u can do better, let me show u how’… must implant into my brain first…

    2. hehe…yah, they ask questions non stop..

    3. I’m thinking of getting a good dictionary, thesaurous and a good set of encyclopedia to prepare myself for such questions.

Don’t want to give them the wrong answer and then they take our answers as gospel.

    4. True, true…When Jona write his name mix Big and small capital, I will always said, the spelling is correct except the alphabet you use not right, and immediately, he is happily go and erase everything and write correctly…..kid just need some praise

    5. Didn’t Tim ask u why he must always walk ‘four-ward’ towards u and not one-ward, two-ward or three-ward? Hahaha! He’s so cute.

Ya ya, I do believe dat it’s wrong by saying ‘Why so ugly’? It’ll really put the kid off (esp my girl). Kids loves to accept praises.

    6. Yeah… it’s getting tougher and tougher to answer XY’s questions these days, esp when my answers will lead to more questions. But that’s a good sign. They’re curious to learn.

    7. yes. indeed. you are so right about being positive-‘u can do better, let me show u how’

my kids watched David and Goliath the other day and they asked me, “why they have to fight and not be friend?” ……
