    • Parenting Tip#17: Don’t Pressure Your Child

Yesterday, I bet most of you heard a piece of sad news where this UPSR gal hangs herself because she could not achieve excellent results. Hey her results were better than mine. What is going on with the education system or was it the parent’s high expectation on their children? I must say that a lot of parents are pushing their children too hard. I am always very worried when I hear parents sending children to tuition at a young age like 6 or 7 years old. Isn’t that a bit too much? :wall:

Let me tell you, I never get great results during my school day, not that I cannot. I am those who score enough to get to the next stage. However I had lots of fun during my school days participating in other sports or recreation activities, knowing lots of friends from other schools. At the end of the day, when someone comes out to work, does anyone care what your good results were?

I hope I am able to control myself from pressuring my children and let them have a happy life instead. I wished they can do well to proceed to the next stage and spend precious time in exploring God’s creation.

    1. I agree..education is soo different unlike my time last time…I play a lot…I am not the top student but then my lecturers said I may not be top in academic but I am well balanced because I had a lot of extra activities which eventually will help in future…

Now I understand what they meant….

Now education in Malaysia is sooo academic..no fun…study for the sake of exam not knowledge

I am getting worried for my kid/s…

    2. Yeah.. nowadays we emphasise too much on academic results. But we live in a dilemma. If the child doesn’t do well, then he/she will be put in the last class where there’re many trouble-makers n teachers r perceived to give up on them. So we worry our child will be left unguided n become worse.

      I hope I won’t succumb to society’s pressure n make my child’s learning journey a terrible n difficult one.

    3. yeah..this is so surprising…baru 12 yrs old can get that kind of study pressure liao…hey, lets play and just PLAY!!!!!!!!!

    4. Yes, this is the most scary part!

I hope I dont hv any pressure from other too! (MIL, FIL, SIL..bla bla bla…)

    5. I was so sad to see the news yesterday. luckily my parents didnt pressure or force me to get good result…only std 6 she can do this kind of thing – killing herself 🙁

    6. i m sad to come across this news too … what is happen now to the young age kids ??? 🙁
Very true, let’s teach our kids to have fun in study and not pressure .

    7. parents just feel kiasu, what to do? really a poor girl.

    8. Yes. Pressure is a great threat. Sad to hear this.

    9. Yes, I do agree with you. That’s why now, I’m a bit worry, cause I plan to send Jona to chinese medium school, but, I can’t guide him…..and he definitely need tuition liao….

    10. agree! parents nowadays follow blindly on what other parents is giving to their children. and yes the kiasu syndrome is so terrible in our society now. I just wish our kids won’t be seeing having time to PLAY is luxury to have in the future.

    11. I hope I will not pressure my kids too..

But then, I always have this thought that they should develop their potential and not suppress it. Is that pressuring huh?

    12. wow. that’s scary. my parents never pressure me during my student days.

i hope i can bring out my kids potential and not instil pressure. not necessary it has to come from school.
