    • He Can Read

      September 20, 2007

Today I am so happy. First my son told me to put a new “Peter And Jane” book in his bag. I asked him why. He kept quiet. I ask him whether he read to his teacher. He said he did softly.

I took out the “Peter And Jane” book. He read it to me. Actually I had been doing the reading with him once or twice each week. He can recognize some words but not all of them. Today he can read the whole book. I am so proud of him.

His reward to encourage him: Two Ultraman Model. If you notice, he read to the teacher too. I guess he some how conquer his fear and anxiety. Thank God and the teachers for having so much patience with him.

Parents, do be careful when picking out a nursery or kindy for your child and I wouldn’t advice you to send your child too young (below 3) to nursery. Some timid children like my son may bury the fear inside if face with tough situation like fierce teachers.

    • Healthy Delicious Meal

      September 20, 2007

My hubby said a healthy meal is when he sees all colors on the plate. I was so touched by his remark. Look what I made for him and the children. It is simple and colorful, of coz tasty too.

I love to cook and hope to learn more fast and quick baking type of food. Jamie Oliver, the naked chef does a lot of those. It took me 1 hour plus to make the above dish. The fish was bake with herbs and spice. The pasta was top with bolognaise mushroom sauce, which you can make your own or buy ready made. I added extra carrots, onions, celery and sausage for my children. Next I will try to bake chicken. Simply yumilicious!

    • Talking Bird

      September 20, 2007

I wrote about car trouble when we were coming down from Genting in the previous post. While waiting for 2 hours in a quiet area where most of the shops are close. I heard a rich man bought all the shop lot and doesn’t want to sell. Anyway, we had a friend to keep us company. It is a talking bird.

When I first approach it, guess what he did? He sounded the siren alarm like real. At first I thought the shop alarm went on. It gave me a shock and surprised that a talking bird can make this sound. Later he made cat and dog sound. He is really a cool bird. However his voice was a little in the high pitch tone and can give us goose bums.

My children had fun making him make noise. I think my children make more noise that he does. By the way, it may not be a “he”, I don’t know.

Here is a cat sound from the bird:

    • Look Alike Meter

      September 19, 2007

People kept telling me that Emily looks like my hubby and Tim looks like me. There was a small percentage saying she looks like me. For those who seen me and my hubby, who do you think she looks like?

As I was blog hopping, I saw in HuiSia and Julian post the look alike meter in the blog. In my mind, I can put Tim and Emily to the test and see where their good looks come from. The software does a scan on each picture: mother, father and child. After that, the result will show whether the child has the father or mother looks in percentage.

By now you are all anxious about whom Tim and Emily look like right? I was too. Anyway it is just a face recognition technology and it may not be 100% accurate. Before I show you the result, leave a comment to tell me whether Tim and Emily look like.

      Result: Tim & Emily.

    • House Guest

      September 18, 2007

Early in the morning, we were greeted by a little house guest outside our house. She is a little puppy who has gone astray and came to our doorstep. Some of my neighbors said most likely she was thrown away because she is a gal puppy.

I didn’t have any dog food in the house, so I gave him a drink of water and some honey star. The children were thrilled and excited. Emily was chasing her around and tickling her. I was late for work so I told them, they could come back to play with her.

Hubby told me that the dog was still around when he fetch Tim back during lunch time. I thought of getting some dog food, a little toy bone and collar with leash for the puppy. We are still deciding whether to keep it or not. When we come home, he was not seen in the house. Children were shouting for doggy. After a while, he appeared at our gate again.

I gave him some food and drink. He ate and later played with the bone. By the way, we named him, Bagel. A name that my children love to say. We left him in the garden and he disappeared again. If he returns tomorrow, I may give him a bath.

    • Funny Bone

      September 18, 2007

Emily has a funny bone in her and she can be very comical at times. She does actions to make me laugh. Her conversations can be very innocent but humorous.

Here is one of those situations. I was afraid of her bowel movement especially when we are traveling. She will try to delay it and later cause constipation. However I can smell her gas coming out very often.

Mummy: Emily, you want to poo poo? Your gas is smelly.
Emily: No mummy. My poo poo is sleeping.
Mummy: When is your poo poo going to wake up?
Emily: Poo poo is sleeping, cannot disturb them.

Later, she felt tummy ache. I fetched the potty and let her sit. After a while…

      Emily:
      Mummy!
      Mummy: Yes honey.
Emily: Poo Poo wakes up already. *meaning the poo poo has arrived onto the potty*

She gave a cheeky smile. :giggles:

    • Something Is Missing

      September 14, 2007

Why did we take 8 hours to drive from Genting to Penang? Actually it took longer 8 hours exclude dinner time. We started at 11am to descend the hill and hoping to reach Penang by 4pm but we reached Penang at 9pm. Look at the picture to see what the problem is.

At the foot at the hill, we saw smoke, more like hot spring shooting out from the car. My hubby stopped by the side of the road and did a quick check. The top of the radiator cracked. Fortunately across the road, there was a police station where we can ask for a nearby workshop. Great news the one and only workshop was ½ km away.

We went to the workshop, the mechanic told us there isn’t any spare parts that can fit into our car. We need to wait for parts to be sent up from KL. We have no choice but to wait. At the surrounding area, not many shops were opened, however there were chickens and a talking bird to keep the children entertained. I am glad the children were not sleepy or cranky. After we got the car fixed, they slept all the way back.

We were glad that the car did not break down half way on the hill or half way through Batang Kali. We may not find a workshop. Theories of why the radiator broke, it could be due to stress when the car is coming downhill or may be due to cold weather of the car and overheated when descending down the hill. I believed God help us all the way and thank him for that.

More about the smart talking bird in the next post…..

It sure beat the number of emails I have in my inbox. It took me 1 hour to clear my inbox. I don’t like keeping unread emails in my inbox. I am so glad that now I am back on track.

    • You guys are good, yes it is Genting Highlands we had our family vacation. Wow that place has changed so much since I was there 7 years ago. We drove up, it takes 5 hours to drive up from Penang to Genting. We used the Batang Kali road. However it took us 8 hours to come back. I tell you why in the next post.

      Theme Park Hotel

We stayed in Theme Park Hotel with a view. We had a family suite with 2 queen size bed, a TV area and a dinning area. I realize there wasn’t any air condition in the room. Hey who needs it? This is Genting we are talking about, natural air condition.

We had a good view of the theme park from the room. The bad is we can also hear people screaming from the theme park.

Thanks to my mother, we had it free because she had a lot of points (WP) to exchange for hotel, meals and theme park tickets. I don’t think you want to know how she gets those points.

      Theme Park:

There are 2 main theme parks in Genting, outdoor and indoor. We preferred the indoor theme parks as most rides are more suitable for my children’s age. Family package cost RM246 (Normal) and RM264 (Peak) for 2 days. However we went there on Sunday which was peak, we decided to get the indoor package (RM95) on Sunday and outdoor package on Monday.(RM106).

There wasn’t any queue because we went there during weekdays. It was fun for my children as they can ride as many times as they want. Emily love the ride called “Ride De Paris” where there are different vehicles that go round and round, up and down. Vehicles like police car, ambulance, ice-cream truck, tractor and etc. She really got her money’s worth. Timothy was too tall for that ride.

Other attractions were Flying Coaster, Genting Sky Venture, SnowWorld, Ripley’s Believe It or Not and First World Cineplex. We didn’t go to any of those as it was not suitable for Tim & Em. We wanted to go to Snow World but both my children have runny nose so we decided to pass.

      Disappointments

Tim was dying to ride the cable car but twice we went there, it was closed without any reasons.

There weren’t many rides in the outdoor theme park there were suited for younger children.

Weather was not on our side, it was raining and foggy.

There were a lot of smokers everywhere, indoor and outdoor.

      Cantonese Joke From My Aunt

Genting Highland is famous for its casino, the one and only license casino.

Aunt: Here they only serve fruits like watermelon, papaya, honey dew and any melon you can think off. No pineapple. What soup are you drinking?

Me: Winter melon soup. *roll eyes*

      Aunt:

      Watermelon = Sai Kuah
      Honey Dew = Mutt Kuah
      Papaya = Muk Kuah
      Winter melon = Tung Kuah
      Bitter Goard = Fu Kuah

Kuah, kuah, kuah….Kuah in Cantonese means DIE which is not very good if you are gambling. They don’t serve any pineapple (Wong Lai). Wong Lai meaning prosperity come. No Wong Lai, all die.

Me: Nah, eat some sang choy (lettuce). :giggles:

Later, I got my aunt some pineapple and she said she strikes 2 mini jackpots. Not sure how true. I don’t gamble so eating any kuah doesn’t disturb me any bit.

    • Back From 3D/2N Vacation

      September 11, 2007

I just got back from a 3D/2N vacation where 90% of the trip was free. Guess where I bought my family to? No, I didn’t use any PPP money to pay for the trip. It was a great trip though and my children enjoyed it.

Let me give you some hints, you can see snow there, it is a place where children love to go and a place where some adults like it too, I haven’t been there like ages. I think 7 years ago. I will put up the pictures in my next post. I need to clear all my emails before it explode and I am dead tired, as I just touch down from a 8 hours journey. It could have been shorter. Something interesting happen along the way.
