    • End Of JMC

Emily quit Junior Music Class with Yamaha last June. Basically I am not happy with the teacher because she is going way too fast for the children. Emily is also not enjoying the class. I believed lack of encouragement for her.

One thing that I do not like about the JMC Yamaha class is that the parent has to be there in the class. At this particular class, the time is also not right. It is right after Emily wakes up from her nap. She tends to cling on to me in the class and refuse to play at times. I had to do extra work during the work day to get her up to speed with her lessons. It was tiring for me and I decided to throw in the towel. By the way, the fees went up too for Yamaha.

Now, I have changed her to another music school. She will attend the class on her own with a few other children. Most important, the time slot is before her nap. Let’s hope the teacher is nicer and encourages her to play. In any music school, the teacher is very important. I wanted the teacher who taught my nephew. Imagine, my nephew takes very little time to practice and now he is playing so well.

    1. The JMC in Bangkok is triple the price as comparing in Malaysia, and we have to pay full term. So I didn’t enroll Justin. Furthermore, the only Yamaha center which conducts in English is too far from my area, so I can’t see the point of paying so much and being the blur mommy in a Thai music class with my son. LOL! I guess I will only enroll my kids to proper music class when they are about 6 or 7, in the mean time, just let them play with the keyboard at home. 😛

    2. how much issit in penang? here in brunei is charging B60. hmm understand how it feels have to attend class wif the child, some children will onli do better without the parents there. samuel is still not attending any instrument lesson, the music class hes attending is more on playing which he loves it alot

Alicia: Now it is RM70 per month.

    4. Ya, it’s very important that a teacher teaches well and that he/she is good with kids, else kids will find it very boring to learn.

    5. Music is supposed to be fun n fun n fun…
Also agree…teacher is very important to make the lesson fun fun fun …

    6. I agree that the teacher is very very important.

    7. Ya, no point in letting Emily continue if she’s not enjoying. I haven’t started Des with any music instruments and I don’t know how to start or what instruments she’s interested in.

    8. Tim is also on JMC?
If the class is not fun, it’s tough for the kids to enjoy.

    9. How long is the class? An hour I guess, for toddlers. I’m thinking of sending my gals to music class too but I’m not sure if they would like it. I don’t want them to quit after 1 year, just like how Alycia quit her ballet class.

My son is currently enrolled in Musikgarten, and here’s my verdict = 2 thumbs up from the mummy and kiddo! I would surely recommend this music program since it’s so fun, so much so that the children are learning music unintentionally!

    11. Hi Michelle,

Do you still have the JMC materials? I would like to buy the DVD & CD from you. Thanks.

    12. Part of the reason y I din enrol XY in JMC is coz she has to be accompanied. Hope Em enjoys her new class with a good teacher.

    13. I fully agree with you….so far till today, I don’t really ask Jona to practise at home(lazy me), but, he can play and memories well the song:)….

Btw, RM 70 per month is not so expensive compare to Musikgarden where I pay RM 80 per month…

    14. Sorry to hear this…we were thinking of signing our tot up for this programme too as he’s keen on the piano and violin.

Too bad about the teacher! Guess we should check out Musikgarden and Kindermusik as I hear both programmes are available in Penang now.

    15. Here in Petaling Jaya, I pay RM90 per month for JMC. So far so good, Ian and I enjoy learning music together. A good music teacher plays a very important role in making the class fun and the children interested.

    16. I just check out the JMC programe yesterday. KL they charge RM90 per month. I am thinking to sent my sons to learn music since i can see got some interest in them. Hope the teacher will be a good one.
