FUN WITH HOUSEWORK

  • MyBabyBay

    • Timothy has progress tremendously in his development in the academic world. Such big word for small fellow. In his previous Kindy, he didn’t utter a word to his friends or teachers. I guess he was having fear of fierce teachers. The teachers could do anything to get him to read, participate or even speak. The teachers looked to me and complained everyday about him.

Ever since he moved to the current Tadika (run by my church) with friendly helpful teachers, he made progression. The reading report book changed from “cannot read” to “able to read with guidance” to “able to read softly” to “reading twice” Now he can read Peter & Jane series.

Peter & Jane series are a good series for your child to learn reading. Words are repeated and simple. They start with recognizing “The”, “a”, “here”, “and”, “I”,..etc.

As for Emily, gals being gals mature faster. She now can read 1a, 1b and trying out 2b. If you want to start your child with reading, go get the Peter & Jane series. Now anyone knows whether there is a malay version of Peter & Jane. I need to teach my children Bahasa Malaysia.

    • Paper Doll

      April 8, 2008

Have you played with paper dolls before? Drawing cute dolls and making clothes for the paper dolls, mixing and matching. I have and I enjoyed playing with it. I came from a poor family where by my parents could not afford any Barbie dolls. I have to make do with paper and color pencils.

Guess what, I bought 2 paper dolls books for Emily in year 2007. She was too young to play then. Now she is having fun with it. She matches the paper/cardboard dolls with all the pretty wonderful dresses. The book has many collections of costumes, dresses, pajamas, shirts and pants. It is certainly a cheaper version of Barbie dolls. If you have a gal of age 3 and above, you should get a copy of this book. It only cost me around RM16.90. I got mine from MPH.

    • Separation Anxiety

      April 3, 2008

One morning, I had an early morning meeting and my hubby had to fetch the children to school. Yes, we only have 1 car for the family. Save cost and environmental friendly family.

I asked my hubby to drop me first. My children were pretty excited to drop me at the office.

Mummy: Papa is going to drop mummy to the office and fetch you both to school.
Tim: Drop? What is drop? *he giggled, must be thinking of carrying mummy and throwing it down*
      Emily: Drop?!!
Mummy: Papa will go to mummy’s office and I go to work there.

Both excited and making lots of noise. When hubby reached my company’s guard house, Emily started to cry. She didn’t want me to go to work and holding my hand. Hrm..her emotions can change very quickly. Twice and the same thing happens. As for Tim, he waved goodbye and as usual asking me to buy his favorite green soya bean.

When we go back home during lunch time, we cannot let Emily see us. She will not let us go easily without a fuss. One minute she can be very excited and cheerful, next minute she can be a “bin chui ngap” (about-to-cry-look). I must always remind myself that she is only 3 years old and just acting her age. Although she always tells me that she is a big gal and wants a big cake for her birthday.

    • Funny Song From Emily

      March 7, 2008

Emily taught me a new funny song and she was singing it in the car. Here is how it goes, please sing along

Two little monkeys jumping on the bed
One fell off and bumped his head
      Mummy call the doctor
      And the doctor said
No more monkeys jumping on the bed….

Three little monkeys jumping on the bed
One fell off and bumped his head
      Mummy call the doctor
      And the doctor said
No more monkeys jumping on the bed….

Now on, if anyone jump on the bed, I will called them monkeys. :giggles: Any of your children sing this song to you?

    • Haircut Day

      March 5, 2008

Hubby wanted Emily to have a haircut because he finds her hair messy. I still think she looks prettier with her hair long. Anyway, I wanted to cut my hair so I brought her along. She loves going to the hair saloon with me. I must say she can sit very still throughout the cut.

Look below for the before and after shots. Emily was pretty please with her new hair style. She went around the house asking whether she is pretty or not. Another vain pot hor?

      Before:                  After:

      In the morning,

Daddy: Mummy, your gal doesn’t want to go to school. Please help to dress her up.
Mummy: Emily, why you don’t want to go to school.
Emily: I want to stay at home and watch cartoon.
Mummy: Don’t you want to show your teachers and friends your new hair style.
Emily: Want! Want! *suddenly she lit up and instantly changed her uniform*

As for me, after having long hair for many years, I decided to cut it short too. I cannot remember when was last time I had short hair. My hair almost touched my waist. Now it is real short.

Let’s see whose hair grows the fastest, Emily or mine?

    • Last month, my gal returned home with sweets every day. I was wondering who gave her the sweets.

      Mummy: Who gave you sweets?
Emily: Teacher Chan and Teacher Wong.
Mummy: Why do they give you sweets?
Emily: Because I am a good gal.

It is not like the teachers. They might reward the children with sweets once in a while but not frequent. I know they frequently give stickers. I related it to the school principal and request that the teachers not to give my gal sweets so often.

Yesterday, the principal told me that she solved the sweet puzzle. She told me that it was Emily’s friend Farrah that gave her the sweets. The principal was puzzle at first because she knows her teacher would never give children sweets all the time. I apologized to her.

Mummy: Emily, Mrs Nxxx told me that your friend Farrah gave you the sweets.

Emily: Yes Farrah is my friend. She gave me sweets.

Mummy: Why you say teacher Chan and teacher Wong gave you the sweets? You say wrong already. *imitate her way of speaking*

      Emily: I forgot mah.

Mummy: Ok. Tell your friend Farrah, cannot give you so many sweets. Later your teeth all spoiled. Like kor kor, no teeth. *Tim’s two front teeth dropped off*

Emily is allergic to certain coloring. She will developed phlegm and later wheezing. My hubby and I are always concerned about the junk food she eats. She cannot take M&M too. Maybe when she grows up, I hope she will be stronger.

    • Stage Fright

      March 2, 2008

Emily experienced her first stage fright. She was happily singing in church this morning. The Sunday school teacher told the children that whoever can memorize Philippians 3:14 will get a small gift. She practiced hard and could repeat it very well throughout the week. So did Tim.

      The verse goes like this:

“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus”

She was all excited wanted to get the gift, she put up her hand and the teacher called her up to the front. She went up in front of the crowd and forgot what she wanted to say. She looked at the teacher blankly. The teacher asked her to sit down. She sat down. I saw her disappointed face and I can see her very nervous.

I cheered her up and she was back to normal. After the class was over, I talked to the teacher telling her that Emily was working hard to memorize the verse but she was too nervous. The teacher was nice and told her to say the verse. She could recite in front of the teacher and the teacher gave her the gift. She was very happy. By the way, Tim had his stage fright last few weeks too.

    • Chatty Box

      February 26, 2008

I love seeing my children chatting with one another. Yes, I do ease drop on their conversation. They chat with one another during play time and their conversation can be very imaginative.

Emily has learned lots of words and she loves asking questions. She can yak yak yak and yak. When I am teaching Tim with his homework, my little gal will come around asking me questions and interrupt my teaching. I know she does that because she wants attention and of coz she wants to learn as well. Boys being boys have very short attention span and get distracted easily.

Yesterday, my gal turned around and told me this.

Emily: Mummy I can spell fish, see I colored the fish.
      Mummy: *disturb her and sang her favorite song* 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Once I caught a fish alive….
Emily: Mummy I want want want…*disturbed*
Mummy: 6,7,8,9,10 I let it go again
Emily: Mummy, why you talk talk talk. You stop talking, I cannot listen. (She meant she cannot talk because my singing drown her thoughts)
Mummy: Sorry Sorry Sorry. *kept quiet*

*Mummy noted it down. When she becomes too chatty, I will used what she said to me* :giggles:
