    • No Entry!

      February 16, 2008

Tim surprises me all the time with his funny bone. Today I went to the study room and saw this on the wall.

He told me that he saw some ants on the wall and he put this up so that the ants do not go there. How cute. He is really good in expressing himself with drawing. I think he uses his right brain more. My hubby said that Tim is a visual person like him and he picks up things faster if he sees it.

It explains why I had difficulty teaching him spelling. He doesn’t like doing memory work. I must think of a more visual way to teach him spelling.

As Vien puts it: No Ant-ry!

    • Valentine’s Humor

      February 15, 2008

What’s with the flowers? Besides being expensive, over price and selling like hot cakes. Do you think that Valentine’s Day have become too commercial. Yeah, I bet the florist or the choc stores are very happy with the profit they made.

Anyway, yesterday I received a company memo stating that our guard house is looking like a florist shop and running out of space. Hey we have a big guard house. It shows how many available girls are there in my company. Ooh! don’t get me wrong, married women received flowers too. Wives are smart to tell the husband to buy diamond instead. :giggles: Back to the guard house, the admin asked those who were called, to go collect the flowers immediately.

The message ended with “Unclaimed flowers by 7pm will be disposed”. Some of the guys jokingly said that they will stay back till 7pm, go the guard house and collect free flowers. I am not sure whether any of them successfully get a free bouquet for his love one as I went home early.

One guy (last minute buyer) went to the florist shop to book a bouquet to be sent to the company for his girlfriend. The florist told him that there are too many orders, you want you have to wait and send it yourself. It shows that the florist shop owners get the last laugh, laughing all the way to the bank and those poor guys had a big hole in their pocket.

    • Where Are My Things?

      February 13, 2008

First my angpows went missing. I opened my drawer and saw only 6 angpow packets left. My hubby told me that he only gave out less than 10. Yes, this year we did not give many out because we didn’t meet many children. I packed about 50 angpow packets. Where are they? I counted and counted, kept recalling how many packets we gave away. Later I remembered that before I left for KL, I kept some in another bag because I didn’t want to bring so many to KL. Found them!

Next, I lost my safe deposit keys. I hardly visit the safe deposit box as it is in town. As I was packing my drawers, I found a receipt for the rental. I realized the postal address is not up to date. I wanted to make a trip to change the address and also take a look in the box. The problem is I forgot where I placed the keys. It was like 3 to 4 years ago that I took it out. I dig through every cupboards and drawers. Fortunately I found it. While looking, I did some spring cleaning too.

Lastly I lost my doc appointment card. It was always in my wallet but it is no where to be found. Now I don’t know when my next doc’s appointment is. Oh well, I will wait for his SMS reminder to come. The nurse will be angry as this is the 2nd card I lost.

At this point in time, I forgot what I forgot. Let’s hope I don’t have to remember what I forgot, else I will have to waste time finding it. That’s motherhood!

    • Petronas Twin Towers

      February 10, 2008

The Kuala Lumpur Petronas Twin Towers is the pride of Malaysia. I always admire the height and the beauty of it. It glows beautifully at night.

I had a chance to take my children up to the 41st floor on the sky bridge that joins both towers together. We got there at about 9:30am and got tickets for 12:00pm. Tickets are free but parking is not. A tip, if you want to save time, you need to before 8:30am. The counter opens at 8:30am and there is always a queue. Never go on a Monday because it is closed.

We lingered in the bookshop and had lunch before going up. As we entered in, there is a short 3D video presentation and after that we made our way up in groups. One lift can only take about 15 people. It is on the 41st floor. The sky bridge can withstand a movement of 10 inches. Any strong wind, we will need to evacuate.

It is a great view up there. My children have fun looking down on the scenery. Tim saw the big huge swimming pool and asked me to take him there next time. They fooled around. Tim started performing some kung fu move and Emily showing off her Ultraman hand gesture.

I am afraid of height and while standing on a platform that is up on midair gave me goose bumps. It was all gone when I saw the beauty of the surrounding. Oh well, that was 15 minutes of excitement and it was time for us to get back down. It is certainly another great place to go in Kuala Lumpur.

    • Pusat Sains Center

      February 9, 2008

Pusat Sains Center also known as the Science Center in Malaysia. It is a place for the young ones to enjoy science in a fun manner. It is also the green dome in Damansara that I always drove past but never been. I took my children there and they enjoyed it very much.

In comparison to other science center I have been, it doesn’t have that many things for children to explore. They were also having some renovation. The machines are not very well maintained and many were not in working condition.

The fun part, it has a play area with balls, puppet stage and playground for smaller children (age 2-4) to enjoy. Tim and Em liked that room very much. For me, I like to robotic sections. There are some robotic arms for us to try to pick objects with some button controls.

It has a big aquarium at the entrance and basically you can cover the entire are within 2 hours. It cost RM6 and children below 13 are free. If you haven’t been there, you can pay a visit to support our Science Center. More info here: http://www.psn.gov.my

After visiting the science center they became cute astronauts.

    • Hotel Plan Cancelled

      February 8, 2008

I had to cancel my plans to stay in the hotel because Emily fell sick after a few days in KL. She probably had too much fun or she ate too many sweets. She ends up having a bad cough and a mild fever.

I took her to a near by clinic. The doctor was a specialist but not a child specialist. I didn’t pay attention to his titles. I found that at times, some doc asked way too many questions at one time. He didn’t give me enough time to answer them all. Next he prescribed two bottles of medicine for her. However the name of the medication was not written on the bottles. I thought that it was a govt ruling that all medication names needs to be written on the label.

I requested the nurse to write the names on the bottles. I will never give medicine to my children without knowing what it is. I hope all parents do the same and request the doctor to write the name on the label.

It is a good practice as I need to know what medication works for my children and what doesn’t.

I guess I have to review Kuala Lumpur Traders Hotel next trip. I heard they have a very beautiful night view of Petronas Twin Tower. Emily is fine now but she still has a lot of phlegm to clear.

    • CNY Preparation

      February 2, 2008

The only things I have prepared for CNY is getting the Angpows packed and clean the house. Yeap, I didn’t get any CNY cookies, oranges, decoration or drinks. I will be away this year for CNY. Where am I going? I will be in KL in my parent’s house. I bet my parents will be happy to see their grandchildren.

To make the trip more special I made a booking to a luxurious hotel under company rate. It has a great view from the hotel. I will let you know when I returned. Probably I will write a review too if the hotel doesn’t let me down.

I told my children, they are very excited about it. They are looking forward to the big TV with cartoon networks and the swimming pool as usual. Those who wants to join me to enjoy the pool, ping or call me.

For all my blog readers, here’s wishing you a Blessed Happy Chinese New Year!!

    • Say A Little Prayer

      January 31, 2008

My hubby and I thought my children to thank God for the food and say their night prayers. Both of them got the hang of it. They thanked God for the toys, asked God to take away their cough, asked God for ice-cream, take care of papa, mummy, Tim and Em and others.

They also learn how to memorized God’s word too. They can memorize John 3:16 New International Version:

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

It is amazing what their little brain can do. Children are good in memorizing stuff. If you don’t believe me, you can try it yourself.

    • Adopting Languages

      January 28, 2008

At home, my family converse in English. Sometimes I speak to my husband in Cantonese. However when I talk to my children, automatically I will switched to English. I am not sure why I do that, it seems to be so natural to me. The funny thing is they will laugh when they hear strange Chinese words. I find that they understand Cantonese but feel weird to say it.

At least at the babysitter, they converse in Mandarin because my babysitter uses Mandarin and Hokkien with them. I guess they learn faster when they are using the language often.

Another way for them to learn Cantonese is when they join me watching TVB series. They will ask me what the meaning of this and that is. It gets annoying when the exciting parts come on and they asked questions. Sorry I am only human.

I really hope they picked up more Cantonese and Mandarin. Oh now Timothy picked up a bad habit, he likes to say “kek say” meaning make me angry or as popeye put it “blow me down”. I have no idea where he picked it up. Daddy asked him, he said it is from me. I asked him, he said it is from daddy. Oh well, at least it is not a bad word.

    • Transformer Toys

      January 25, 2008

Transformer, beside the movie, it produces a series of toys. The toys can be transform from a vehicles such as truck, airplane, space ship or car into a robot. I feel that the toy is very good for children because it helps them to develop some problem solving skills.

Transformer toys come in many levels, level 1 being the easiest to transform and level 4 most difficult. It may take you a few minutes to transform to a few hours. I got a few transformers from US and it is cheaper that Malaysia.

If you have a boy, get one of these for him. Let me show you how it works. This is the Optimus Prime – good guy transformer.
