The Differences
April 18, 2009Mummy, I will miss you. Guess who said that?
You probably think it is Emily but it came out of Tim’s mouth. I was surprised but at the same time felt touched or in Cantonese “gum thong”. How often will you hear a boy or a man say that? Probability is very low. I will enjoy this while I can.
Emily has a different way of showing affection. She will hug me or kiss me on my cheeks. Tim will do less of that on his own. Only when I asked him to do, he will do it. That is why I am surprised he told me that he miss me. I believed boys and girls have different ways of showing affection. One does it by words and the other does it by actions.

TV Not Included
April 16, 2009
I wonder who will expect a TV to be in this small box of game. It will be cool if TV is included with the price of RM420.00.

Looking Through Her Glasses And Hearing Through His Ears
April 13, 2009Just as I was complaining about fogging and I received news that my nanny and her son were admitted due to dengue. Oh well, thanks to my FIL and MIL who helped us to take care of things.
Emily got her glasses and she was willing to wear it. I tried to help her feel unconscious of it. She is excited over it as she kept asking me when it is ready.
I received a lot of comments like “She is so young, why she is wearing glasses?” when people saw her wearing glasses. One funny question I had was “How come she is long sighted and not short sighted?” I wished I knew the answer. Anyway I like what one of the parents said, let her watch TV, maybe it can help improve her long sighted. If you see a child wearing glasses, please do not make any funny remarks in front of her or ask her, why she is wearing glasses. It can be real sensitive to the child. Today, she told me that she didn’t want to wear her glasses to school. I guess she didn’t want her friends to say funny things to her. Anyway I told her that she looks pretty in it and asked her not to worry about it. She does look good it in. Maybe I will get another pair with the sunnies. It will be real cool.
As for Tim, he had sports day today but he didn’t tell me that. He was in uniform until another mom told me while I was asking her about something else on the phone. I had to bring his track pants and sport shirt for him to change. His school has a real bad communication system. The teacher will instruct the children. When the message is passed, it is either lost or half of the info.
I suggested to the school head that it is better to ask the child to copy down the instruction in a message book for us parents to see. He seems to agree and told me he will let the school teachers know. I am not the only parent who is facing this problem. I believed I need to teach Timothy to improve his Bahasa Malaysia so that he can carry back the full message back. He can read BM but most of the time, he doesn’t understand the words. Any ideas how I can improve his BM?
*second time I am writing this post, a little geram with my itchy finger which deleted the post before Google can cache it* 🙁

A Night Visitor
April 10, 2009Yesterday we returned home from church prayer meeting. Tim and papa were washing their feet at the garden because Tim stepped on dirty water. I took the keys to open the front door. Emily likes to open the door after it is unlocked by me. She stepped inside while I switched on the lights. I carried some stuff in the kitchen and later Emily ran into the kitchen followed by Tim. I turned back and saw a centipede running in the opposite direction.
It is funny and I wished I have a camera to capture that. I believed the centipede and my children were as afraid of each other, running in opposite direction.
Papa was quick, got a broom and whacked it into pieces. Centipede can sting people if we are not careful. Sorry centipede, just to protect the children, we have to let you go.
After that, I saw my children with pillows cover over themselves, hiding on the sofa. Of cause, we parents never give up the golden opportunity to tell them, not to dirty the floor when eating or playing else bugs will come in to live with them. :giggles:
I guess the centipede came to our house for shelter because it rained the whole day yesterday.

Wrong Timing
April 8, 2009Ever since my son started school, I decided to cook dinner more frequently. Previously it was only my hubby and I eating, so we eat out more often. Now since Tim is joining us, I cooked for the family. Emily eats at the nanny’s place.
I will cook the soup in a crook pot during my lunch time. By the time, I come home the soup will be ready. Yeah, we Cantonese must have soup for our meal. I will just make a meat dish and a vege dish. It is just enough for the three of us. Home cook meal is always the best. By the way, I have ample supply of long green bean because of what my FIL started outside the house. We have so much until we give our neighbor’s some. They love it and asked us for the seed to plant even more. Hehehe…who knows, later the entire stretch of the road is long green bean plants. :giggles:
I was a little frustrated because yesterday and the day before, the fogging guys came while I was cooking dinner. They were fogging our area because I heard there is a dengue case in our taman. Of all time, they have to pick the time while I am cooking. Ooh, there is no warning about the fogging.
Imagine this, I was cooking at my back yard (wet kitchen) and stir frying my chicken. Suddenly I heard a sound from far. I had to quickly move my pan to my stove inside, my kicap-kiacap, plates and etc, close the door within 1 minute. I have to close both sides because they fog back and front. I had to cover any exposed food. If I knew they were fogging, I could have just taken my family out for dinner.
They fogged until my whole house was cover with smoke, literary cannot see my gate at all. Only the kitchen is visible and not smoky because I close the door. Thank goodness, it was also rainy yesterday so that after the fogging, I can open all my doors for fresh air. I really hate it when they do that, coming at the wrong time!
Now a days I get easily frustrated, maybe too much work in the office. Sigh with economy downturn, people get chopped and the left over work is passed to the people left behind. Looking at Vegas vacations, I do need one now!

The Squint
April 3, 2009My hubby and I discovered that Emily squint (“tau kei ngan”) her eye lately. Eyes are moving in different direction. She just recovered from cough and mild fever. My babysitter reported that her eyes are funny during her last fever. I didn’t notice it previously until this week.
Pic Credit: http://members.tripod.com/manisha_b/images/Squint.gifAbove is the picture of squint eyes. She can do both Estropia and Extropia. I tested her to see whether she has eye sight problem or maybe she inherited papa’s lazy eye. I wrote a few letters, big ones on the board to have her read to me from a distance. She could read the big letters. However when I wrote mid range one, she told me she cannot read and it is blur. The funny thing is when she tried to focus on the letters, her eyes squint.
Hrmm, I am not sure whether her sickness has something to do with it. When a child is sick, the eyes muscle may be weak and therefore causes the eye to squint. I saw some improvement as she recovered.
Anyway, I made an appointment with the Ophthalmologist, the eye doctor. I suspect Emily may need glasses. Today she had her eye checked and bingo, she is long sighted with astiq. Long sighted in her case is not “lo far”. In her case, her eyes over focus like the picture below. Image cannot register at the retina.
Pic Credit: http://www.ssc.education.ed.ac.uk/courses/pictures/vmay086.jpgHer preliminary result was 300 but after the eye drops that makes her pupil dilate, her reading was higher. Anyhow she was given the prescription and she has to wear glasses. After 6 months, she will have another appointment to see whether her situation improves.
By the way, she was very excited to choose her glasses. She told me, “Mummy I want the glasses, can flip one”. What she meant was she wanted one with sunglasses attached to it. Too bad, those are only for adult. Her glasses will be ready next Thursday. She looks very elegant in her new glasses. I wonder are there any contact lenses for long sighted??
No member in the family has long sighted but most of us are short sighted. Everyone in my family wear glasses, my parents, my bro & sis, my uncles and my aunts. Same goes for my hubby side. So why Emily is long sighted. The doc’s explanation was it is planted in the gen but Emily gets to expose it. Isn’t she unique?
She looks Cool!

Unwilling To Reveal
March 31, 2009Emily loves to tell me stories. She tells me what she did at school, her conversation with grandpa and what her friends did. She can go on and on and on…. Sometimes I have to tell her to be quiet so that I can talk. She loves to interrupt when I am talking to papa. Although many times I have told her to wait for her turn, she kept forgetting. She will reply me, “Later I will forget what I want to say”. By the way, Tim also does too.
Emily does not like to tell me anything that she does wrong or makes her look bad. Last week, she accidentally bumped into a girl that make the girl fall down & cried. I was not there but I heard other children telling me so. Emily kept very quiet. I didn’t want to make a scene there so I asked her nicely about it when she was in the car. She didn’t want to tell me what happen and she changed topics every time I asked her. Sigh.
This is not a good sign as I want her to learn to tell me everything, good and bad. So how do I do that? I guess I have to keep telling her it is alright to tell me things that she does wrong and hopefully she will not avoid telling me.

Mediating On God’s Word & God’s Wonders
March 29, 2009
Psalm 19:1-5
1 The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
2 Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they display knowledge.
3 There is no speech or language
where their voice is not heard.
4 Their voice goes out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world.
In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun,
5 which is like a bridegroom coming forth from his pavilion,
like a champion rejoicing to run his course.
Best to watch the 2 video together at the same time. Simply amazing. It makes my heart melt.

Earth Hour
March 27, 2009
March 28, Saturday 8:30pm – 9:30pm
What are you guys gonna do? You are supposed to turn off lights and electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness that the environment needs help. Remember to do your bit. One of my friends suggested having a candlelight dinner. It sounds good but I am afraid if I switch off my lights, fans and air condition. The mosquitoes will come around.
Timothy asked me whether the mosquitoes will have a party too. I bet they will and using our blood as cocktail beverages. :giggles:
What am I going to do? I probably hang around the mall with my children. I bet the mall will be crowded, so I have to be there early. Besides hubby need to get a pair of sport shoes and I got Sushi King vouchers to consume.
Let me know what you will do…*kepoh look*

Mathematician In The Family
March 24, 2009Guess Who? STOPPPPPP…………….Please comment who you think it is before reading.
My dad is very good in Math although he is not educated. He can do mental arithmetic by adding numbers with 4 or 5 digits without any pen, paper or calculator. Math gens run in my and my hubby’s family. My brother took all the Math subjects in his University and he solved Math problem as a hobby. For me, my favorite subject is also Math and I love solving puzzles. My Math exercise book was always in demand in school too.
Anyway, I discovered a few days ago that Emily can do mental arithmetic. Yes, without counting fingers. By the way, her school has not started her on Math yet. She must be learning it when I was teaching Timothy.
It all started when Timothy and Emily was playing teacher student with me. They will ask me a math question like “What is 5 + 5?” I will give them the answer right away. Yeah I was showing them how “super” I am. :giggles: Emily will use big numbers like “What is 12+11?”
Yesterday, I was asking Emily some simple Math like “What is 4+4?”. She answered 8 without counting her fingers or writing on the board. I was shocked. I test her again. “What is 5+5?” She said 10. Either she has a good memory or she is counting in her brain. What do you think?
Here I captured this in the video. She is only 4 years and 9 months.
